The Market Square Garage is closing next Monday, Feb. 9, to allow crews to begin renovations at City Hall and Market Square, according to a city announcement this afternoon (Monday).
Monthly pass holders “should have already been contacted” about new parking options, and a list of alternative locations in Old Town is available on the city’s website. The garage is closing as the project site will be secured with fencing this month, according to the announcement.

CVS’ last day at 2601 Richmond Highway was Jan. 21, CVS spokesperson Roslyn Guarino confirmed to ALXnow. Prescriptions from the pharmacy have been transferred to the CVS Pharmacy at 415 E. Monroe Avenue in Del Ray, and employees were offered similar roles within the company.

On This Day in Alexandria History — “On February 2, 1904, Magnus L. Robinson was elected to chair the executive committee of the State Negro Press Association. Born in 1852, Robinson was a lifelong Alexandrian and his parents provided him with a private school education. For a time he went to Howard University, but withdrew due to a serious illness. All ACPS buildings and offices will remain closed “due to continuing frigid temperatures resulting in sidewalks not being cleared and safe for students to walk to school and wait for the bus,” Superintendent Melanie Kay-Wyatt announced this afternoon. The closure comes as crews remove what is known as “snowcrete,” or thick, compacted layers of frozen snow and ice, from ACPS facilities.
