Once again, suspected car thieves have eluded Alexandria police by driving across state lines into Maryland.
At around 10:45 a.m., the Alexandria Police Department discovered a stolen red Kia Sorrento with D.C. tags in the area of Duke Street and Callahan Drive in the Carlyle neighborhood of the city, according to the police scanner. APD reported multiple suspects inside the vehicle.

Civil War Christmas in Camp is a popular annual program the Fort Ward Museum, featuring reenactors in a winter camp setting and period decorations. This year, the program is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 9, from noon to 4 p.m.

The Hildebrands will don period attire to discuss and perform music associated with Alexandria’s sister cities: Caen, France; Dundee, Scotland; Helsingborg, Sweden; and Gyumri, Armenia. Scottish music was especially influential in the American colonies, and once the French joined the Revolutionary cause there were musical celebrations for Generals LaFayette, Rochambeau and other French leaders. This concert event is part of the “Alexandria commemorates America’s 250” campaign. David & Ginger specialize in researching, recording, and performing early American music. Since 1980 they have presented concerts and educational programs throughout the country and abroad at museums, historic sites, schools and universities. Last week, Alair announced that Bieschke agreed to join the Alair franchise as a partner, establishing Alair Alexandria. Alair was founded in 2007, and also owns Alair Arlington and Alair Hunt Country.
Royal Restaurant, now under new ownership, is the latest Alexandria restaurant to seek permission to swap out some of its parking space for more outdoor seating.
The restaurant is hoping to trade 10 parking spaces for 60 outdoor seats. Another 30 seats will be added to an alley on the west side of the building.
The Alexandria Police Department (APD) is investigating a felonious assault in a S. Van Dorn Street parking lot.
A 27-year-old man sustained life-threatening injuries during a fistfight in Alexandria’s West End on Saturday night, according to APD. APD said today (Wednesday) that the incident is being investigated as a felonious assault.
