Waste will not be collected in Alexandria tomorrow (Tuesday) as city offices, courts, facilities, libraries and public schools plan to remain closed another day due to icy, inclement weather.
Trash, recycling and yard waste collection will “slide” by two days as crews continue to remove ice and snow, the City of Alexandria announced shortly after 7 p.m.
Traffic is backed up on westbound Interstate 495 near Eisenhower Avenue as authorities respond to the scene of a tractor-trailer crash near the Alexandria-Fairfax County border.
The crash occurred when the driver of a tractor-trailer in the right lane “lost control, jack-knifed, and struck an SUV” on westbound I-495 around 4:08 p.m., according to Virginia State Police.

The City of Alexandria will not collect trash, recycling or yard waste tomorrow (Monday), according to an announcement this afternoon as sleet continues to fall.
Instead, waste collection will “slide” one day as the city’s crews continue to remove snow and ice. The city has released the following collection schedule for the week ahead.

A snowplow driver with the Virginia Department of Transportation was trapped inside their overturned vehicle at the Fairfax County border after crashing at S. Van Dorn Street and Eisenhower Avenue shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday.
