An Alexandria man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison, and a Falls Church man has been sentenced to 16 years in prison after their convictions for rape and robbery at a hotel in the city’s West End in 2022.
Alexandria Circuit Court Judge Heidi E. Meinzer, on July 9, sentenced 37-year-old Ja’Real Wilkins, of Alexandria, to 40 years of active incarceration on two felony counts of rape and one felony count of forcible sodomy. Less than a week later, on July 14, Judge Kathleen Uston sentenced Wilkins’ partner in crime, 27-year-old Tysheem Boykins of Falls Church to 16 years of active incarceration on one felony count of forcible sodomy and one felony count of robbery by threat.
The crimes were committed at a hotel in the 100 block of S. Bragg Street.
Wilkins was sentenced to 50 years in prison for each of the two rape charges, with 35 years suspended, and 50 years for the forcible sodomy charge, with 40 years suspended.
Boykins was sentenced to 35 years for the forcible sodomy charge, with 20 years suspended, and five years for the robbery by threat charge, with all but one year suspended.
Upon their release, Wilkins and Boykins will be on supervised probation for the rest of their lives, register as sex offenders and participate in substance abuse and mental health treatments. They are also banned for life from contacting the victim.
“These codefendants have both been sentenced to significant terms of active incarceration,” Commonwealth’s Attorney Bryan Porter said in a statement. “While no sentence can truly remedy the trauma suffered by the victim of such terrible crimes, the lengthy prison terms will stop these sex offenders from harming other potential victims and serve as a deterrent to others who might contemplate similar crimes.”
Boykins has a few convictions for previous crimes in the city. He was sentenced to a year’s probation after being found guilty of trespassing in the city in 2017, and spent 60 days in jail after being found guilty for entering a vehicle that didn’t belong to him in 2020. He was also sentenced to 10 days in jail that same year for trespassing.
Porter also thanked the Alexandria Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division for investigating the case, which was prosecuted by Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorneys Harsh Voruganti and Ashtyn McDaniel.
Wilkins and Boykins are being held without bond in the city jail until their transfer to the Virginia Department of Corrections.
