🌤️ Today’s weather: The weather will transition from cloudy to mostly sunny, reaching a high of around 49 degrees. Expect a light northwest wind in the morning, which will become a north wind at 9 to 14 mph, with possible gusts up to 21 mph. Friday night will be mostly clear with a low of approximately 32 degrees, as the north wind continues at 8 to 11 mph.


Plans to narrow the George Washington Parkway and widen the Mount Vernon Trail cleared another hurdle this week.

The changes could be coming to the Mount Vernon Trail just south of Alexandria. The National Park Service issued a Finding of No Significant Impact for an Environmental Assessment (EA) evaluating the impacts of the proposed changes, according to a release.

Various concerns have surfaced about the Potomac Yard arena development, but the recurring throughline has been concerns over transportation and traffic.

Tomorrow (Thursday) the City of Alexandria is holding a virtual listening session on transportation and traffic management concerns specifically.


A man was robbed of personal property by two suspects in the West End just off King Street on Monday morning, according to the Alexandria Police Department.

The incident occurred in an underground parking garage in the 4500 block of Ford Avenue, a little more than a week after an automobile was reported stolen from that same garage, according to the city’s crime database.


Chase Bank cut the ribbon on its new location in the heart of Old Town this morning.

Chase Bank bought 628 King Street for $11 million in December 2022, more than double its assessed value ($5.2 million last year), according to Alexandria property records. The building was previously a Banana Republic for decades, and closed along with The Gap at 622 King Street in January 2022.


Travelers through Alexandria might want to steer clear of N. Henry Street in the Braddock neighborhood this weekend as a section of the road will be closed for construction work.

The 700 block of N. Henry Street — between Madison Street and Wythe Street, next to the Charles Houston Recreation Center — will be closed from 12:01 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 4.
