With the official arrival of spring on Thursday (March 20), and the much-anticipated cherry blossom season in full swing, ALXnow is inviting residents and visitors alike to capture the beauty of Alexandria in its springtime glory via a spring photo contest.

ALXnow readers are encouraged to showcase their most stunning snapshots of the city awakening from winter. From vibrant floral displays to sun-drenched street scenes, ALXnow wants to see how you experience spring in Alexandria.


The Old Town Festival of Speed & Style is set for May 18, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. along the 200-500 blocks of King Street. This free event is open to everyone.

On March 19, 2025, Principle Gallery (208 King Street) will host a Poster Reveal Reception from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to honor Thomas Kuester, the artist behind this year’s festival poster.


Alexandria is bracing for a vibrant, emerald-tinged weekend as St. Patrick’s Day approaches. Celebrations kick off Friday, March 14, and continue through the traditional holiday on Monday, March 17, 2025. The Alexandria Police Department is strengthening its ties with local youth by bonding over basketball.

Officers from the department’s Neighborhood Resource Unit teamed up with the Charles Houston Recreation Center on Wednesday night to bring more than 20 Alexandria kids to a Washington Wizards game.
