Happy Cat Hotel files special use permit for luxurious feline grooming and spa facility

A luxurious spa for felines just filed a special use permit with the city.

On March 23, the Happy Cat Hotel filed a special use permit (SUP) to operate at 2391 Dove Street, which is located in an industrial area next door to the Local Motion Project dance studio, the Full Metal Jacket military surplus store and Southern Kitchens, Inc. The last day for public comments on the SUP is April 22.

“We will offer both short term and long term boarding as well as full service grooming and spa options, seven days a week,” the franchisee wrote in her application. “[Services will include] a feline exclusive boarding facility with custom built, individually themed luxury spaces complete with room service and a feline exclusive grooming salon.”

The hotel and spa was founded in Connecticut in 2014 and began franchising last year. Themed rooms include the multi-dimensional Weekend in Purris and Mew Orleans. The hotel would be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on weekends from 9 a.m. to noon.

It costs upward of $50 a night to board a cat at one of the hotels, and the SUP includes 18 cat rooms, a kitchen and spa.

The location is also a mile away from a number of pet-related businesses, including the Wholistic Hound Dog Academy, Frolick Dogs, Dogtopia, Pinnacle Pet Spa & More, as well as the Wild Bird Center of Alexandria.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
