More than 57% of Alexandria voters have cast ballots in today’s (Nov. 3) congressional midterm election, according to 4 p.m. turnout data released by the city’s Office of Voter Registration and Elections.
A total of 58,614 votes were reported in Alexandria, representing 57.21% of the city’s 102,451 active registered voters. Many of the turnout can be attributed to 34,417 residents casting early votes, making up about 34% of the city’s active registered voters.
Alexandria’s voter turnout has surpassed the November 2025 election, which saw about 55% of registered voters cast ballots.
Poll workers at the Charles E. Beatley, Jr. Central Library precinct say that it’s been “steady” with no surprises throughout the day, with a little more than 300 voters trickling in from the time polls opened at 6 a.m. until noon.
Mayor Alyia Gaskins was at George Washington Middle School on Tuesday afternoon and spoke with an international delegation of election observers from the US-Asia Institute.
“We take seriously our commitment to free and fair elections in Alexandria,” Gaskins told ALXnow. “We work across a number of different agencies, as well as with volunteers and our Electoral Board, and others, to make sure that we honor that commitment, and that everyone knows their rights when they come to vote.”
Today’s also a teacher work day at Alexandria City Public Schools, and kids have the day off. On his lunch break, ACPS teacher David Paladin-Fernandez volunteered to drive an elderly woman with disabilities to Beatley Library.
“This is the third time David has driven me to vote,” the woman said, adding that the country has gone in a “terrible” direction, and that “I want to be active voting, and I want my vote to count.”
In Alexandria, the 8th Congressional District race, U.S. senate race and three Virginia constitutional amendments are on the ballot.
