As Barnes & Noble experiences a resurgence, its second Alexandria location will open next week.
The bookstore announced its 4515 Duke Street location at the Shoppes at Foxchase will open Wednesday, Nov. 4. Located in a former Walgreens space, it joins an existing Barnes & Noble location at the Potomac Yard Shopping Center.
“Alexandria is an exceptionally exciting place in which to open a new bookstore,” said James Daunt, CEO of Barnes & Noble. “The city has an extraordinary character all its own, and we are thrilled to expand into the community. This is a beautiful bookstore and we look forward to welcoming readers over the holiday period.”
The store will open at 10 a.m., and local author Bsrat Mezghebe will help cut the ribbon and sign copies of her book, “I Hope You Find What You’re Looking For.” Costume Character Arthur will also join and host story time events over the weekend.
Customers will find grand opening deals like $50 off any NOOK device and 40% off DVDs, Blu-rays, and 4k Ultra HD movies. Barnes & Noble premium and rewards members will earn double stamps on all purchases from Nov. 4 to 8.
The 13,000-square-foot store will sell books, toys, games, magazines, vinyl, DVDs and stationery. Customers can follow the Barnes & Noble Foxchase store on Instagram for store updates and events.
“Many of our experienced booksellers call Alexandria and the surrounding neighborhoods home which makes this new store especially meaningful to us,” store manager Elizabeth Jones said. “We’re looking forward to building a true neighborhood bookstore within the heart of this community.”
The bookstore brand is in the midst of a growth period after more than 15 years of declining store numbers. Barnes & Noble has more than 735 stores, up from nearly 600 in 2023.
A total of 60 new bookstores are opening in 2026, including 15 in November. Aside from the new Alexandria location, Barnes & Noble is also opening new Texas, California and New York stores on Nov. 4.
