Late-night drivers on the Capital Beltway may encounter a traffic stoppage on the Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge early Saturday (Aug. 29).
The drawbridge will open for a boat crossing between 1 a.m. and 1:20 a.m. Saturday, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. Drivers are asked to plan for delays and use alternate routes.
The Woodrow Wilson Bridge, connects Virginia and Prince George’s County, Md. over the Potomac River via the Capital Beltway. Maintenance and the passage of larger vessels under the drawbridge periodically disrupt traffic flow on the busy interstate. While the original bridge required drawbridge openings roughly 260 times per year, the reconstructed span with a higher clearance opened in 2006 reduced that number to about 60.
