On This Day in Alexandria History — “On July 30, 1909, Orville Wright and Benjamin Foulois, a U.S. Army lieutenant, flew a plane to Alexandria in a test flight for the military. The biplane traveled from Fort Myer to Shuter’s Hill and back. A tethered balloon flew above Shuter’s Hill so the pilot would know when to turn back toward Fort Myer. This successful demonstration flight was required for the Army’s purchase of its first military airplane.” [Historic Alexandria]

$22B Plan to Revamp Dulles International Airport Unveiled — “A presentation of the proposal, which is expected to cost approximately $22 billion and eliminate the airport’s polarizing mobile lounges or “people movers,” was shared this spring by the newsletter Airport Architecture … In place of the people movers, the airport will add a new passenger train and more moving walkways, and the parking lot will be moved closer to the main terminal, according to a White House official who shared details of the Republican president’s plan under condition of anonymity before an announcement.” [FFXnow/AP]
