Croatian Festival Precedes World Cup Team Arrival — “On the eve of the arrival of the Vatreni to Alexandria, visitors had the chance to experience Croatian culture through traditional music and dance performances by Klapa Podvorje and Kolo Club Marian from Steelton, Pennsylvania, as well as Croatian food, wine, and olive oil. City Council Meets Tuesday — Items of note on City Council’s Tuesday, June 9 agenda are a briefing on the proposed funding plan for the Potomac River Generating Station, a presentation by the Alexandria Police Department, end-of-year budget adjustments and a proposed polling place change. Alexandria Resident Appointed by Spanberger to Board of Visitors Role — Jessica Killeen of Alexandria, a senior manager at Deloitte, was appointed by Gov. Abigail Spanberger to the James Madison University Board of Visitors. Frank Conner of Alexandria, who worked at Covington & Burling LLP before retiring, is joining the Virginia Commonwealth University Board of Visitors. [Office of Gov. Abigail Spanberger news release]

Alexandria Aces Begin Season — “Summer in Alexandria has a soundtrack all its own. On the north side of town, it is the steady hum of jets flying in and out of National Airport, the low murmur of neighbors chopping it up in the bleachers, and that sharp, unmistakable crack of wooden bats echoing from Frank Mann Field in Four Mile Run Park, close to The Birchmere. Progress on King Street and Commonwealth Avenue Bridge Work — “Early [Wednesday, June 3], VRE’s construction crews completed the second of three work windows to install jump spans across the bridges spanning King St. and Commonwealth Ave. The installed jump spans are temporary supports that will allow construction on the bridges and nearby railway to be conducted over the next few years with minimal impacts to rail service.” [Virginia Railway Express/Facebook]

Virginia Budget Negotiations Remain Stalled — “At the center of the dispute is whether Virginia should scale back tax incentives for data centers. Senate Democrats have pushed for changes, while House Democrats have argued for maintaining policies they say help keep Virginia competitive for business investment.” [13 News Now]

Arch Proposal Goes to Public Feedback — “The National Park Service is seeking public input on a report examining the potential effects of President Donald Trump’s proposed 250-foot-tall arch. The arch would be erected on Memorial Circle at the entrance to Washington, D.C., at the western end of the Arlington Memorial Bridge to commemorate America’s 250th birthday.” [DC News Now]
