The former vice president of finance for Alexandria-based cybersecurity firm Invictus has been indicted for allegedly embezzling $4.5 million.
On May 18, a grand jury returned an indictment for Sharon Geok-Lian Lee, 47, of Loudoun County, charging her with 12 counts of felony embezzlement. An Alexandria Police Department investigation concluded that Lee allegedly used the company’s American Express credit cards, which were in her name, to make large amounts of unauthorized purchases that were billed to the company and not reimbursed, according to a release from Commonwealth’s Attorney Bryan Porter. Lee was finance director and later VP of finance at Invictus during the scheme.
“The personal expenses varied widely, including luxury apparel, vacation resorts, car payments, and over $150,000 on gambling alone,” Porter’s office said in a release. “Overall, Invictus estimates that the unauthorized purchases total more than $4.5 million dollars.”
After conducting an audit, a representative of Invictus contacted APD on Aug. 12, 2025 and reported the suspected embezzlement, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit. The auditor found the alleged embezzlement took place from January 2019 to December 2024.
“It was further reported that Ms. Lee attempted to obfuscate her actions by hiding the purchases using vague billing codes in the company’s accounting program,” according to the affidavit.
APD also served a search warrant on Mercedes Benz of Chantilly and found fraudulent purchases for a 2002 Mercedes Benz (totaling $98,000), a 2023 Mercedes-Benz (totaling $31,600), a 2024 Mercedes-Benz (totaling $120,000).
“A DMV search on the VIN number of each vehicle showed the registered owner as Sharon Geok-Lian Lee,” according to the affidavit.
Lee faces 20 years in prison for each embezzlement charge. A trial date has not been set.
