Three local businesses along King Street in Old Town will be open late tonight (Friday) for a holiday-themed celebration.
Red Barn Mercantile (1117 King Street), Pippin Toy Co. (1310 King Street) and Penny Post (1201 King Street) will remain open from 8 p.m. to midnight for “Midnight Merriment” festivities. The shops plan to offer refreshments and activities throughout the night as shoppers enjoy “the magic of Old Town Alexandria after dark,” according to a release.
- Red Barn Mercantile will host a “Stocking Stuffer Station” for kids and adults with “unique finds perfect for those hardest-to-shop-for people”
- Pippin Toy Co. is offering complimentary gift wrapping for all purchases
- Penny Post invites guests to write Christmas cards together “in a cozy communal setting” with complimentary stamps provided
Each business plans to cater “festive sips and snacks” as well.
Amy Rutherford, who owns all three businesses, said that the event is meant to put holiday shoppers at ease during a busy season.
“We know the holidays can feel rushed, so we wanted to create an evening that brings the joy back to gift giving,” Rutherford said in a press release. “Whether you come solo to check off your list or make it a date night with a friend or partner, we’re here to help you shop with a smile.”
Also this weekend, Red Barn Mercantile plans to host a hot chocolate tasting event from 1-3 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday), and Pippin Toy Co. will give out complimentary hot chocolate with all purchases from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday.
