Tonight: ACPS Facilities Renaming Hearing — An Alexandria City School Board hearing will be held from 5-6 p.m. in the School Board Meeting Room at 1340 Braddock Place and is available via livestream and Zoom. An agenda and further information on the district’s Identity Project 2025 are available on the Alexandria City Public Schools website. Afterward, the board will host an add/delete session for its proposed Capital Improvement Program. [ACPS]

Trash Collection Reminder — “On Thursday, Dec. 11, the City of Alexandria will slide trash collection by one day to Friday, Dec. 12 due to operational changes. Recycling, yard waste, and curbside composting will not be impacted. Residents with trash pickup regularly scheduled on Thursdays should place bins out for collection on Friday, December 12.” [Alexandria T&ES]

Impound Lot Temporarily Closed — “The City Impound Lot at 5249 Eisenhower Avenue will be closed from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 11 for a one-time staff meeting.” [Alexandria T&ES]

Health Officials Warn of Norovirus Surge — “According to the Virginia Department of Health, multiple norovirus outbreaks are currently underway … [it] spreads through contaminated surfaces, shared food or water, or close contact with sick individuals. Experts recommend frequent hand-washing with soap and water, disinfecting commonly touched surfaces [and] keeping sick children home from school or daycare.” [WJLA]

Youth Theatre Hosting Workshop —  “Alexandria Children’s Theatre (ACT) is offering a day of wintry fun for students ages 5-8 and 9-12 interested in singing, dancing, and special crafts. The workshop will be held on Saturday, Dec. 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mount Vernon Community School … Using the theme of Disney’s Frozen, students will spend the day singing winter songs, making fun craft projects, and learning a couple of dances that will be shared onstage for families at pickup time.” [The Zebra]

It’s Thursday — Expect mostly sunny skies with a high temperature near 37 degrees and northwest winds blowing at 13 to 15 mph, occasionally gusting up to 29 mph. Cloud cover will increase during Thursday night, bringing the temperature down to around 27 degrees while a gentle west wind blows at 5 to 9 mph. [NWS]
