Two more COVID-19 deaths have been reported in Alexandria, and the death toll from the virus now stands at 68.
The victims were in their 50s and 60s.
There are or have been 3,716 cases in Alexandria, according to the Virginia Department of Health. That is an increase of 88 cases since this time last week.
There have also been 312 hospitalizations since the first case was reported on March 11. The Alexandria Health Department says that one in 12 infected residents have been hospitalized.
“An estimated 66% of Virginia adults who become infected never have symptoms, so everyone must maintain at least six feet of distance from others, wear a mask over both the nose and mouth, and carry and use hand sanitizer with at least 60% ethyl alcohol,” according to the city. “Be prepared to help your family and neighbors by answering a call from AHD if you are identified as a close contact of someone who tests positive for COVID-19.”
Across Virginia, there have been 3,021 deaths and there are or have been 141,138 cases of the virus.
Demographic, Age and Sex Breakdown
Latino residents are the hardest hit with 1,729 reported cases, followed by Black residents with 762 cases, white residents with 725 cases, Asian or Pacific Islander residents with 136 cases, 84 cases classified as “other” and four native American cases.
There are or have been 1,934 women (with 35 deaths) and 1,769 men (with 33 deaths) in Alexandria with the virus. The only age group that has not experienced a death so far are children and teenagers.

Testing Update
There have also been 37,228 (polymerase chain reaction) tests administered in the city so far, 4,560 antibody tests and the city’s seven-day positivity rate is now at 5.3% and stands behind Arlington County.
- Arlington County has 3,851 cases, 147 deaths and a 3.9% seven-day positivity rate
- Fairfax County has 20,507 cases, 594 deaths and a 5.4% seven-day positivity rate
- Loudoun County has 6,678 cases, 123 deaths and a 7.8% seven-day positivity rate
