Alexandria has seen an increase of 149 cases since this time last week, and the city’s seven-day positivity rate continues to be lowest in the region, according to the Virginia Department of Health.
There have been 62 deaths in the city due to the virus (unchanged since last week) and 3,527 cases of coronavirus in the city. There have also been 33,332 (polymerase chain reaction) tests administered in the city so far, 4,342 antibody tests and the city’s seven-day positivity rate is the lowest in the region at 4.3%.
“COVID-19 is spread by people whether or not they have symptoms, and AHD estimates that nearly 9% of infected Alexandrians have required hospitalization,” the city noted in a recent news release. “Everyone must do their part to stop the spread: maintain at least 6 feet of distance from others, wear a mask over both the nose and mouth, and carry and use hand sanitizer with at least 60% ethyl alcohol. With a recent increase in cases, you are more likely to encounter someone who is infected.”

- Fairfax County has 19,055 cases, 562 deaths and a 5.6% seven-day positivity rate
- Loudoun County has 6,223 cases, 118 deaths and a 7.8% seven-day positivity rate.
There have also been 298 total hospitalizations since the first case was reported on March 11, according to VDH. That’s an increase of four hospitalizations since this time last week. Statewide, there are 2,686 COVID-related fatalities, and there are or have been 127,571 cases. There have also been 1.7 million tests administered and the state’s seven-day moving average is 7.7%.

Latino residents remain hardest hit with 1,673 reported cases, followed by Black residents with 715 cases, white residents with 681 cases, Asian or Pacific Islander residents with 124 cases, 77 cases classified as “other” and three native American cases.
There are or have been 1,826 women (with 34 deaths) and 1,675 men (with 28 deaths) in Alexandria with the virus.
