Frost advisory issued for Alexandria, surrounding areas

The National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory for Alexandria and surrounding areas in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday.

Temperatures as low as 33 degrees will result in frost formation, according to the weather service.

The advisory covers portions of the District of Columbia, central, northeast, northern, and southern Maryland, and central and northern Virginia, including Fairfax, Arlington, and Alexandria.

Frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation, and sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered, the weather service said.

The most significant impacts will be outside city centers and in areas further inland from the shores of the Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac River.

Residents are advised to take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.
