Friendship Fire Company festival returns Saturday to mark 251st anniversary

The Friendship Fire Company will mark its 251st anniversary with its annual community festival Saturday, Aug. 2, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the 100 block of South Alfred Street.

The free, family-friendly event at the Friendship Firehouse Museum, 107 S. Alfred St., will feature fire safety education, demonstrations of Alexandria Fire Department equipment, and interactive activities for children.

Attendees can explore booths hosted by the Alexandria Police Department and Sheriff’s Office, enjoy music performances, and browse displays by community organizations. Local vendors will offer food and beverages for sale.

Children can participate in water play activities and hands-on experiences with historical artifacts. Free toy firefighting helmets will be distributed to young visitors.

The Friendship Veterans Fire Engine Association and the Office of Historic Alexandria are presenting the event, which aims to showcase both modern fire safety practices and the company’s historical significance.

The Friendship Fire Company, established in 1774, is one of the oldest volunteer fire companies in the United States. The museum houses historical firefighting equipment and artifacts that document the evolution of fire protection in Alexandria.

The festival is open to the public and no admission fee is required.
