There are now 2,236 cases of COVID-19, an increase of nine cases since yesterday, according to the Virginia Department of Health. The last fatality due to the virus was reported on Saturday and the death toll stands at 49.
The news comes as the city released Phase Three guidelines for reopening yesterday. Under the new rules, limits on social gathering will increase from 50 to 250 people; swimming pools will be allowed to open at 75% occupancy; gyms and fitness centers can open indoors at 75% capacity and recreation and entertainment venues can open at 50% capacity. Summer camps, however, will stay closed.
The city’s health department is also recommending that residents are safest at home.
“If you must leave home, you are required to wear a face covering when inside buildings,” the city advised in a release. “Please keep at least 6 feet of distance from others whenever possible. Your neighbors and loved ones are counting on you to stop the spread of COVID-19.”
There are nine new cases of COVID-19 since yesterday, and the numbers have steadily increased since the city entered into the second phase of reopening on June 12. There have been 108 new cases of the virus in the city since that date.
It is not clear how many residents have recovered since the first case was announced on March 11, and the latest fatality was reported on Saturday, June 20.

COVID-19 Age and Sex Breakdown
Senior citizens have been severely affected by the virus, and residents above the age of 50 make up all but one of the fatalities.
Statewide, there have been 1,620 reported deaths, and 1,517 of those deaths are confirmed as COVID-related, according to VDH. There are also now 58,465 cases (55,949 confirmed) and 5,869 hospitalizations (including 32 probable cases).
In Alexandria, there are 1,144 females with the virus (with 27 deaths) and 1,083 males (with 22 deaths) who tested positive for COVID-19 in the city. The sex of nine cases was not reported.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above.
