Local dry-cleaning shop Yates Dry Cleaning has donated hundreds of masks during the pandemic and added another 150 to their total in a donation to at-need children in Alexandria.
According to a press release from Yates, the company donated 150 face masks designed to limit the spread of coronavirus to PK Move, a local parkour company putting together boxes promoting physical activity during the pandemic.
“The masks will be included in 150 ‘PK Move in a box’ kits that will be distributed to at-need children in the Alexandria City School System,” the press release said. “[the boxes] feature creative ways to be active while social distancing.”
The donation was overseen by Mayor Justin Wilson.
“We are so lucky in this community to have a very generous business community,” Wilson said, “particularly during this time right now when our community is in such need.”
Yates Dry Cleaning has donated over 1,000 face masks to non-profits but also sells the masks for $15 with the full cost being donated to an employee relief fund.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
