New redistricting maps proposed for Alexandria City Public Schools

Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) has released new redistricting maps for elementary and middle schools.

The plans, now called Square, Circle, and Triangle, were presented at a Redistricting Hybrid Community Meeting on Tuesday (April 22).

Maps during this process were previously color-coded proposals.

The new plans include:

– Changes to elementary and middle school boundaries
– Patrick Henry K-8 becoming an elementary school in 2034
– Jefferson Houston PreK-8 transitioning to a middle school in 2034

The redistricting process is set to be fully implemented by August 2026.

ACPS has scheduled two public hearings on May 12 and June 5. The board is expected to make a final decision on boundaries and policies on June 12.

The district encourages community members to review the proposed maps and share their feedback through the ACPS website or by emailing [email protected].
