Gradually, some restaurants that closed early on in coronavirus pandemic are starting to reopen with takeout options. The latest of those is Urbano 116, a popular Mexican cuisine spot in Old Town (116 King Street).
Staff at Urbano 116 said the restaurant reopened on Tuesday for takeout and delivery through services like Uber Eats.
The restaurant offers several types of tacos, enchiladas and fajitas with prices generally ranging from $8-$12.
Urbano 116 is part of a group of restaurants called Common Plates Hospitality, which also includes the Braddock neighborhood American cuisine spot Mason Social (728 N. Henry Street) and Augie’s, a mussel house and beer garden in Old Town (1106 King Street) that reopened in October.
Mason Social is currently open, but Augie’s remains closed.
While two of the locations are open, Common Plate Hospitality is hosting a GoFundMe for the over 100 employees who were laid off since the pandemic started. The fundraiser started on April 3 and has raised $1,265 of its $50,000 goal.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
