Former Alexandria Fire Chief Corey Smedley has been nominated to lead the Montgomery County fire department, WTOP reported.
Smedley, who rose through the ranks of the Prince George’s County Fire and EMS Department, took over as deputy chief of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and was later promoted to fire chief.
He served as Fire Chief during the Covid pandemic and negotiated the department’s first collective bargaining agreement with the fire department union. He announced late last year that he intended to retire this January.
Smedley will need to be approved by the Montgomery County Council before taking the job.
