Alexandria’s Monika Jones Chapman and her husband City Councilman John Taylor Chapman welcomed their son into the world in the early morning hours of Saturday, Feb. 8.
John Taylor Chapman II was born at 2:44 a.m. and weighed in at 7 pounds, 11 ounces. The kid already has a few nicknames, including JTC II, Deuce and Baby J.
Mom and the baby are doing fine and all family will return home today from Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington. At night, the boy slept in a crib next to his mother and his father, who slept on a hospital sofa bed.
“He was quiet, very quiet,” Chapman said of his son’s birth. “He’s doing very well now, passing all his tests.”
The couple, who married last March in Richmond, got to the hospital at around 3 p.m. on Friday. They called their folks on the way and met them there.
“She (Monika) was having pain most of that day, so I stayed home because I figured something was up,” Chapman said.
Mayor Justin Wilson congratulated the couple on Twitter and Facebook.

Chapman added that he still plans on attending Tuesday night’s council meeting, but “we’ll see.”
“Obviously if I’m not there you’ll know why,” he said.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
