A 31-year-old Alexandria man was arrested last month after allegedly threatening his father with a handgun on a Facebook Messenger video call.

The incident occurred last September. It was reported to police on Oct. 11 and the suspect was arrested on December 1, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit.

The father reported that he was on a Facebook Messenger video chat with his son on Monday, Sept. 26. The father lost his license and told his son that he ordered a new one using his son’s address. The son then allegedly took out a gun and pointed it at the screen and said, “If you come around here I’m going to shoot you,” police said in the search warrant affidavit.

This wasn’t the first time the suspect threatened his father and other family members, and the victim provided police with videos of his son pointing a gun at the camera. The father told police that his son is affiliated with gangs and carries an untraceable gun. Police also said in the affidavit that the suspect is on probation for a previous charge of abduction by force.

The father was able to get a protective order on Oct. 14, and successfully petitioned for a warrant for violating the order on Nov. 28. The suspect was arrested on Dec. 1, posted a $1,000 unsecured bond and was released the same day.

The Alexandria Sexual Assault Center and Domestic Violence Program is available 24/7 at 703-746-4911.

“If you are a neighbor and know that an abusive incident is occurring, call the police immediately,” the city said. “Calling the police is simply the most effective way to protect the victim and children from immediate harm.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
