Good Thursday morning, Alexandria!
☔ Today’s weather: Light rain and windy in the morning. High of 55 and low of 10.
🌤 Tomorrow: Clear throughout the day. High of 24 and low of 10. Sunrise at 7:26 am and sunset at 4:52 pm.
🚨 You need to know
It’s Christmas Eve’s-Eve, and as promised the weather is likely to make it a poor day to travel for (including yours truly). The Virginia Department of Transportation, to be fair, warned locals earlier this week that Wednesday was going to be the best day to travel.
It’s raining this morning, but there’s a chance for that to change into a snowy mix as temperatures drop. Alexandria and the rest of the region are facing a “blast of arctic air” that could drop temperatures down to the lowest they’ve been in December for nearly 30 years, according to FOX 5.
Still, that weather could clear up as early as this afternoon, with an overcast Saturday and a sunny Christmas. Don’t let the sunshine fool you, however, it will still likely be bitterly cold — in the mid-20s — tomorrow with only a slight increase on Sunday.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
