Did you know in the early 1990’s the owner of the then Washington Redskins, unsuccessfully pushed for the construction of a new football stadium where Potomac Yard has transformed over the last 10 years?
Or that there was a push in the early 2000’s to build a baseball stadium in Pentagon City? Clearly, neither happened and the rumors of sporting stadiums popping up has long passed. A quick Google search today on the term “National Landing” immediately results in adjectives like transformation, innovation and dynamic.
National Landing is the umbrella term being used to identify what will become the nation’s most well-connected urban center over the next decade. It’s comprised of three bustling neighborhoods — Potomac Yard (Northeastern Alexandria) and Arlington’s Pentagon City and Crystal City — and is set to soon outpace some of the largest D.C. and suburban markets in the region (Read the full report here).
Amazon HQ2’s announcement to locate in Arlington might have been one of the primary drivers for the term National Landing, but there is plenty of excitement happening in the Potomac Yard section of NaLa (the latest nickname to recognize National Landing). The Virginia Tech $1B Innovation Campus, projected to be completed 2024, forecasts an enrollment of 600 masters and doctoral students a year supporting their goal to create the nation’s most diverse graduate technology campus.
The long-awaited Potomac Yard Metro Station (yellow line) is scheduled to open later this year. More retail continues to open such as Total Wine. Amazon Fresh will open any day now in the former Shoppers Food Warehouse spot.
For those looking to own a home in Potomac Yard, the most exciting option (with current availability) is the Dylan located at 701 Swann Avenue. This new six-story luxury condo building has become one of the fastest selling luxury condo projects in the DMV. Out of the 129 units that will be delivered starting the end of 2022, there are about 45 left for sale. One to three-bedroom floorplans exist ranging from the $600K’s to over $1.2M.
Not interested in new construction and want to reside in one of the well-established Potomac Yard condos or townhomes built in the last 10 years? Inventory is slim. As of the time writing this article, there is only one condo available for sale at 1913 Main Line Boulevard for $970K and one townhome at 1412 Van Valkenburgh Lane offered at $1,249,900.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
