A Maryland man has been sentenced to 17 years in prison after being found guilty for five armed robberies through the area, including one at a McDonald’s in Alexandria.
Jon Karl Mcree Fleet, 62, was found guilty of five robberies stretching from Jan. 24 to March 13. On Feb. 11, 2011, Fleet robbed the McDonald’s at 505 South Van Dorn Street.
“According to a store clerk, the suspect entered the restaurant, placed an order, and then demanded that the clerk give him the money inside the register,” an affidavit said. “The clerk told the suspect that she was unable to open the register because the order was still pending on the register’s screen. The subject then walked around to where the clerk was standing by the register, at which time he brandished a wood and metal shotgun while he continued to demand money.”
The affidavit said the clerk was eventually able to open the register and Fleet took the bills and coins from inside.
Fleet was also found guilty of robberies in Springfield, Largo, Maryland, Falls Church and McLean.
“During each robbery, Fleet brandished a firearm in the presence of employees and demanded money from them,” a release from the Department of Justice said. “Fleet used a short-barreled shotgun while committing the Domino’s robbery. At the time of the robberies, Fleet was a convicted felon, having previously been convicted for armed robberies, and was thus prohibited from possessing a firearm. Fleet’s lengthy and violent criminal history qualifies him as a ‘Career Offender.'”
