Memorial Dedication for DCA Plane Crash Victims on June 1 — “The City of Alexandria, in partnership with Representative Don Beyer, invites the community to a memorial honoring the 67 lives lost in the January 2025 Potomac River mid-air collision. Located along the Potomac River at Rivergate City Park, the memorial was designed with input from families and loved ones to create a space for reflection, remembrance, and community connection.” [City of Alexandria/Facebook]

Self-Driving Cars Transported to Alexandria — “In a public meeting last week with a Virginia Department of Transportation working group, Waymo policy adviser Rich Harrington said that Waymo vehicles had touched down in Alexandria and would soon come to Arlington, both just across the Potomac River from Washington, DC. Moving from mapping to a full-blown robotaxi service takes 12 to 18 months and ‘a lot of money,’ he told state government officials.” [WIRED]

Final Call for Alexandria Aces Host Families — “The organization is making an urgent, final appeal to the Alexandria community: the team is down to its last few openings for host families. Players are currently packing their bags and beginning to arrive in Alexandria. To ensure they have a stable, welcoming home base for the summer, the Aces are looking for a handful of local households to open their doors.” [Alexandria Aces news release]

Performers Lined Up for America250 Fair — “Music of the ’90s, timeless funk tunes and club hits are coming to the National Mall this summer for the Great American State Fair celebrating America’s 250th birthday. Hitmakers slated to perform include Flo Rida, Vanilla Ice, The Commodores and Bret Michaels. Freedom 250, the group organizing the state fair, made the announcement Wednesday, saying more artists would be announced in the coming weeks.” [WTOP]

New Law Tackles ‘Forever Chemicals’ in Food — “Virginia lawmakers have passed new testing regulations to keep PFAS or so-called “forever chemicals” out of the food supply in the commonwealth. For decades, these chemicals have been used to make stain resistant carpets, food packaging, firefighting foam and more.” [WAMU]

Housing, Job Losses Among Top Concerns for Virginians — “The quarterly report from the UVA Weldon Cooper Center finds that one of the biggest distinctions is that revisions to Virginia’s 2025 labor market paint a bleaker picture. The report noted that Virginia lost 10,400 jobs in 2025, which it says “shows that the slowdown in Virginia began earlier and was deeper than previously reported.” [DC News Now]

Arlington Parents Push Back Against Electronic Devices at School — “Arlington parents are organizing to push for new limits on school-issued classroom devices, joining a growing national movement to scale back screen time at school. A group of parents in Arlington gathered on a recent Saturday night to share their children’s struggles with screen addictions and other side effects of school-issued devices.” [ARLnow/AP]
