Two local businesses in Del Ray plan to cut the ribbon on their spaces later this month, celebrating new spots that have opened over the past few months.
The Del Ray Business Association will host ribbon cuttings at Lifestyle & Performance Fitness (202 E. Custis Avenue) and the Department of Beer and Wine (2805 Mount Vernon Avenue) on Saturday, May 16.
Lifestyle & Performance Fitness’ celebration will be held at 8 a.m., immediately followed by the Department of Beer and Wine, located about half a mile away.
“These are such wonderful additions to Alexandria and we hope you will come out and welcome them to the community,” DRBA Board Member Gayle Reuter said in an email.
Patrick Newhall and Lawrence Soto opened Lifestyle & Performance Fitness back in January, replacing a vacancy left by Magpie Reclamations, which closed last November.
The fitness studio will continue its grand celebrations through noon, where attendees can take a tour, meet the trainers and learn more about its offerings, according to a flier shared by the business. There will also be a raffle for two 3-week packs of personal training sessions.
Nearby, the Department of Beer and Wine will celebrate its shop that opened last November, after relocating to Mount Vernon Avenue. The business first opened nine years ago at 2724 Richmond Hwy, before closing in March 2025 and moving to its current location, which is shared with a Truist bank.
Led by Stevie Treichel and Melissa and Jeff Sapsford, the gourmet shop specializes in sustainable wines and international and local craft beer.
“We still can’t believe we found the most incredible spot on Mount Vernon Avenue, and with so much parking,” the DBW team said on Facebook after opening. “It’s also amazing that we are still off Raymond Ave, but finally in the heart of Del Ray like we always wanted to be.”
