Child struck by vehicle near William Ramsay Elementary School

An 11-year-old boy suffered non-life threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle at an intersection near William Ramsay Elementary School in the West End on Wednesday evening, according to Alexandria Police Department radio dispatches.

The incident occurred just after 6 p.m. in the 5700 block of Sanger Avenue near the intersection with Derby Court. The driver of the vehicle that struck the child stayed at the scene, according to the radio dispatches.

The victim was reported as breathing and conscious but couldn’t move his lower body and had lower back pain, according to an APD dispatch.

Mayor Alyia Gaskins addressed the crash in her daily video update to constituents.

“While that child is suffering non-life-threatening injuries, it’s still really scary,” Gaskins said.

The incident briefly shut down traffic along Sanger Avenue to the intersection with N. Beauregard Street.
