Free Lyft rides will be available on St. Patrick’s Day as part of a D.C.-area nonprofit’s efforts to curb drunk driving.
Free rides totaling up to $15 will be available on Lyft from 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 17 through 4 a.m. the next morning, courtesy of the Washington Regional Alcohol Program’s SoberRide initiative.
Residents 21 and older can receive a ride by entering the program’s promotional code into Lyft’s payment tab. The code will be posted at 3 p.m. on St. Patrick’s Day on WRAP’s SoberRide.com.
Four D.C.-area Irish restaurants and bars are sponsoring the initiative this St. Patrick’s Day. Ireland’s Four Courts and O’Sullivan’s Irish Pub in Arlington are assisting the effort, as well as The Dubliner Restaurant & Pub and Martin’s Tavern in D.C.
WRAP operates SoberRide during holidays and celebrations throughout the year, including days like Super Bowl Sunday, Cinco de Mayo and Halloween. More than a third of U.S. traffic fatalities during St. Patrick’s Day involve drunk drivers, according to WRAP President Kurt Erickson.
SoberRide has provided 102,515 free rides home since 1991. The program is available in the following localities, according to a release.
