On This Day in Alexandria History — “On the morning of February 13, 1855, Alexandrians awoke to find the Potomac River frozen solid for miles up and down the river. Although all navigation ceased, townspeople that were brave enough were able to walk to the Maryland shore and back again.” [Historic Alexandria]

‘Innovation District’ Launches in Nat’l Landing — “A new ‘innovation district’ seeking to promote public-private partnerships has launched in Crystal City, Pentagon City and Potomac Yard. The National Innovation Quarter, or ‘National IQ,’ promises ‘to solve the most pressing challenges at the intersection of national competitiveness and technology,’ according to a press release.” [ARLnow]

Seminary Honors Stephen Colbert — “We were honored to confer the Dean’s Cross for Servant Leadership on Stephen Colbert for his work as a satirist who provokes critical thinking and inspires change, and on Evelyn McGee-Colbert for her ministry and leadership in the arts. The Dean’s Cross is the highest honor the Seminary confers.” [Virginia Theological Seminary]

National Popular Vote Bill Progresses — “The Senate passed Sen. Adam Ebbin’s (D-39) national popular vote bill 21-19 on party lines Monday, and the House voted to engross a companion bill and will have a final vote Thursday. The National Popular Vote interstate compact seeks to use constitutional authority allowing states to decide how to award electoral votes — by switching to a nationwide popular vote.” [ARLnow]

Ice Removal Continuing — “Help prevent additional buildup at night by removing leaves, twigs, and other debris from storm drains to let melting snow flow away from streets and sidewalks.” [City of Alexandria]
