A free, public event at The Lyceum this month will celebrate historical programs, exhibitions and events coming to Alexandria for America’s 250th anniversary.
Guest speakers at the America250 Kick-Off will discuss “the significance of the Semiquincentennial and Virginia’s unique role in shaping and continuing to tell a fuller, more inclusive American story,” according to OHA.
The event starts at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26 at the Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum (201 S. Washington Street).
The kick-off will also provide a first look into the city’s upcoming America250 exhibitions, events and programs, including a new 250th-themed exhibit this June. Throughout the year, OHA intends to offer a wide range of events, including specialty tours, lectures, musical performances and more.
Several historical events are planned throughout the winter in coordination with VA250, including $1 tours of the Carlyle House this Sunday and a bicentennial-themed trivia night at Gadsby’s Tavern next Friday, Jan. 23.
Featured events next month include “Singing the Journey: Still We Rise – Jubilee Voices,” a concert celebrating African American history, on Sunday, Feb. 8, and the George Washington Birthday Parade and corresponding “Birthnight Dinner” on Saturday, Feb. 14.
