Alexandria benefit concert will fundraise for child abuse intervention

An Alexandria-based nonprofit is planning a concert to raise funds for local child abuse prevention programs.

The Center for Alexandria’s Children has announced its annual “Banding Together: A Benefit Concert to End Child Abuse,” which is planned from 7-10:30 p.m. on Feb. 21 at the Oswald Durant Center (1605 Cameron Street). This year’s lineup includes local performers from School of Rock Alexandria and Guilty Ghost, led by Commonwealth’s Attorney Bryan Porter.

Tickets went on sale today (Thursday), the Center for Alexandria’s Children announced.

This year’s attire theme is “glamrock,” encouraging “dazzling metallics, sequins, and leather,” or “a more understated approach with sleek, studded jackets and refined accessories,” with inspirations from stars like David Bowie and Kurt Cobain.

Funds from the concert will benefit the nonprofit’s various programs and services dedicated to ending child abuse. In November, the organization’s Multi-Disciplinary Team received a statewide distinction for its work responding to abuse allegations.

In 2025, the center conducted a total of 76 forensic children’s interviews and provided services to 169 kids, according to an annual report.

“Banding Together is not just another gala — it’s the event of the year, often called the ‘most fun gala in Alexandria,'” according to the nonprofit’s website. “Enjoy a lively atmosphere, delicious food and drinks, and the chance to connect with others who share a passion for making Alexandria a safer, brighter place for children.”

The event will also honor three community leaders “for their exceptional service to children and families in Alexandria,” according to a press release.

  • Dana Lawhorne, former Alexandria Sheriff, Champion for Children Award
  • John Porter, educator and community leader, Outstanding Dedication to Children Award
  • Debra Evans, Division Chief, Alexandria Sexual Assault Center and Domestic Violence Program, MDT Partner of the Year Award
