Man arrested after robbery and barricade in Del Ray

An Alexandria man is behind bars after an alleged strong-arm robbery in Del Ray early Saturday morning.

The 31-year-old suspect barricaded himself in an apartment at the 1700 block of Dewitt Avenue after allegedly stealing another person’s electronics around 2:15 a.m., according to Alexandria Police Department dispatches.

“The man was not cooperative when police were at the door early in the morning,” APD communications manager Tracy Walker told ALXnow. “Since the man was not wanted at that time and was not a threat to himself or others, Officers obtained an arrest warrant and returned to the residence later that morning and apprehended him without incident.”

Upon arrest, the man was charged with assault and battery, obstruction and robbery. No injuries were reported in connection with this incident.

Robbery using force is a Class 5 felony, punishable by one to 10 years in prison and a $2,500 fine.

Anyone with more information on this incident can contact the APD non-emergency number at 703-746-4444. Callers can remain anonymous.
