Why is love so hard? Does ketamine-assisted therapy actually work? How can you tap into your “inner healer”? A new podcast hosted by two Del Ray-based clinical psychologists hopes to answer these questions and more.
Earlier this month, Doctors Eleni Boosalis and Lauren Fisher of Del Ray Psych & Wellness launched the premiere episode of Shrinks On Tap. Aiming to raise mental health awareness and normalize counseling, the pair hosts informal conversations from a podcast studio set-up inside their practice, while sipping on non-alcoholic beverages.
“This is a stressful area,” Fisher told ALXnow. “The government shutdown put people out of work. There’s economics, politics, social anxiety, marriage, relationships — there’s a lot going on for people right now, and I think it’s important to realize we should talk about mental health, and it makes people healthier.”
The biweekly podcast was influenced by the success of the practice’s telemedicine services during the pandemic, Fisher said. Future podcast plans include hosting events at local venues and potentially taking the show on the road.
“Healing and learning comes in all different shapes and sizes, and it may not happen in a therapy room or even on a podcast,” Fisher said. “But, being really aware of when we’re in alignment or we’re out of alignment, and what we need to do to support ourselves is half the battle. Healing and growth and freedom can come in all different ways.”
Del Ray Psych & Wellness has been making the rounds. The practice’s clinical director, Amy Begnal, recently appeared in three episodes of the new season of the TLC series “Baylen Out Loud.”
