Members of the public can learn more and provide feedback on the final design of the West Alexandria Transit Center at a pop-up event tomorrow (Wednesday)
The event will run from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the new transit center on Hecht Avenue, located at the former Landmark Mall site. There, residents will be able to speak with team members about the center’s final design phase.
The new transit center opened for service on Nov. 2, but its permanent design is still underway, with construction slated to begin in the new year.
Once complete, the six-bay center will serve several DASH and Metrobus routes and two Bus Rapid Transit routes, in addition to functioning “as a gathering place and crossroads for the community,” according to the center’s webpage.

The final design will be integrated into the site’s four million-square-foot mixed-use redevelopment, which features retail, multi-family housing, townhomes, a medical office and a new INOVA hospital campus.
The project is still in its “planning and conceptual design” and “detailed design” phases, the latter of which is scheduled to wrap up by the end of this year.
The center will assist the city as it strives to sustainably provide more transit options, as outlined in the Alexandria Mobility Plan.
“The completion of the Transit Center will enable the City to achieve long-term transportation goals to support bus rapid transit corridors throughout the City,” according to the city.
