The annual St. Rita 5K returns tomorrow morning (Saturday), leading to some road closures in and around Potomac Yard.
The annual road race raises funds for St. Rita Catholic School’s classrooms, teachers and appreciation events for educators. The morning kicks off with a 1K “fun run” race at 8 a.m., before the main 5K race at 8:30 a.m. near George Washington Middle School at 1005 Mount Vernon Avenue.
On-site registration and packet pickup is available starting at 6:45 a.m.
The course runs along Main Line Blvd and Potomac Avenue, providing scenic views of autumn leaves in Potomac Yard. After the race, an awards ceremony and sponsor expo will start at 9:30 a.m.
As of 1:30 p.m. today (Friday), the church is just a couple thousand dollars shy of its $35,000 fundraising goal, with $32,595 raised.
The Alexandria Police Department has scheduled some road closures to accommodate the event, and notes that buses in the area may experience delays.
More information from the department is available, below.
Please be advised that the following roadways will be closed on Saturday, Nov. 15, for the St. Rita’s 5K.
