On This Day in Alexandria History — “On Nov. 10, 1900, the Alexandria Golf Club, located on Shuter’s Hill, hosted its first tournament. Golf course designer Robert White of Cincinnati had laid out the links that fall, and the following year a clubhouse was built. Entrance fees at the nine-hole course were $5 for men and $3 for women.” [Historic Alexandria]
Reminder: Old Town Road Closures — “Alexandria will temporarily shut down the streets surrounding City Hall on Monday as part of preparations for the City Hall Renovation Project. N. Royal Street will close to traffic between Cameron Street and King Street from 7 a.m. Monday until 7 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 13. USDA Orders States to ‘Undo’ SNAP Payouts —“President Donald Trump’s administration is demanding states ‘undo’ full SNAP benefits paid out under judges’ orders last week, now that the U.S. Supreme Court has stayed those rulings, marking the latest swing in a seesawing legal battle over the anti-hunger program used by 42 million Americans … It was unclear if the directive applies to states that used their own funds to keep the program alive or to ones relying on federal money entirely.” [Associated Press]
In VA, Stopgap Effort Will Pause — “Virginia will pause the issuance of Virginia Emergency Nutrition Assistance (VENA) benefits to ensure full compliance with federal requirements. The federal Food and Nutrition Service directed that 65 percent of SNAP monthly benefits for more than 850,000 Virginians will be issued this week. This action follows the USDA directive to all states to initiate a partial issuance of SNAP benefits, in accordance with the Trump Administration’s USDA guidance. Based on this federal guidance, it is anticipated that benefits will be processed no later than Thursday, Nov. 13.” [Gov. Glenn Youngkin]
