Alexandria Shooting Under Investigation — “Alexandria Police are investigating a shooting incident in the 300 block of N. West Street that occurred late Wednesday night. One man sustained a non-life-threatening injury in the incident. Police reported maintaining a presence in the area as of 10:40 p.m. as the investigation continued. Phil Vassar Brings Tour to Birchmere — “Country music star Phil Vassar returns to his Virginia roots this month, bringing his ’25 Years of Paradise’ tour to Alexandria’s Birchmere Music Hall on Oct. 26. For Vassar, who attended James Madison University before moving to Nashville in the 1980s, performing at the Birchmere holds special meaning. ‘I used to go there when I was starting out as a musician, and I went to James Madison,’ Vassar said in an interview with ALXnow on Wednesday. ‘It’s just such a historic venue, and I just love coming to rock.'” [ALXnow]

Housing Alexandria Fall Festival Tonight — “Housing Alexandria is hosting its Fall Festival tonight with music, games and food. Critton Hollow String Band at Lyceum — “Since 1975, the Critton Hollow String Band has brought traditional American music to audiences throughout the United States, Canada, Japan, Ireland, and Scotland. With fiddle, hammer dulcimer, banjo, and guitar, the band tends a stable of songs from the first settlements of Appalachia to the best of contemporary American folk music.” The concert is Friday, Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lyceum (201 S. APD Hosts Saturday Hiring Event — “Looking to start your career with the Alexandria Police Department? Join us for a Saturday morning hiring event on Saturday, October 11 at APD Headquarters. The session will include a background questionnaire, panel interview, and written prompt. This is a great opportunity to complete multiple steps of the hiring process in one day.” The event runs from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Police Headquarters (3600 Wheeler Avenue, Community Room 106).
