An 18-year-old Alexandria man has been arrested in connection with an assault by a mob and robbery in the city’s Arlandria neighborhood on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

Multiple people assaulted the male victim as he walked in the parking lot of the Food Star International (206 W. Glebe Road). He reported to police that a gray Honda Accord pulled up and that the suspects got out of the car, assaulted him, and stole his shoes, wallet, cash, backpack, and phone, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit.

Police recovered security video from the incident and tracked the license plate to its owner, who was living in an apartment in the 5300 block of Holmes Run Parkway, according to the search warrant affidavit.

Jasson Alvarez admitted to police that he was the driver of the vehicle, but would not identify the other individuals involved in the offense. He was charged with simple assault by mob and second-degree robbery and is being held without bond.

The suspect told police that the “offense was in retaliation for one of his friends being assaulted the day before and that one of the assaulting individuals was (the victim),” according to the search warrant affidavit.

Alvarez goes to court on Oct. 29.
