This week, AlexRenew is inspecting the Potomac Interceptor Sewer within Jones Point Park along the waterfront in Old Town.

AlexRenew will conduct video inspections and run bypass pumps along the Potomac Interceptor Sewer in the park, the wastewater treatment authority announced on social media.

“There may be some noise associated with generators powering pumps. Foot and car traffic in the area will not be impacted,” AlexRenew said in Instagram. “We greatly appreciate your patience as we built toward healthier waterways for Alexandria.”

The Potomac Interceptor is part of AlexRenew’s RiverRenew project to divert more than 130 million gallons of raw sewage from seeping into the Potomac River every year. Construction of the 2.2-mile long underground tunnel was completed last year, and AlexRenew is expected to be finished with the project next summer.

Residents with questions are asked to email [email protected] or call the construction hotline at 1-800-234-6592.
