ALIVE! food pantry has plenty of peanut butter, needs jelly

Alexandria nonprofit ALIVE! needs jelly contributions (via Facebook)

Alexandria nonprofit ALIVE! gets plenty of peanut butter donations, but not enough jelly.

ALIVE! feeds more than 20,000 hungry residents monthly, and recently announced on social media that the perfect partner to peanut butter is harder to come by. According to ALIVE:

Our volunteers who deliver groceries every week have noticed something important: peanut butter shows up often in donations (thank you!), but jelly is harder to come by. And neighbors tell us they especially appreciate having both to make meals stretch and bring comfort to their families.

This fall, let’s make sure every PB has its J. Together, we can fill pantries across Alexandria with the classic combo kids love and parents count on.

ALIVE! also needs volunteers and donations (aside from jelly). No expired food or glass containers are allowed. All contributions must be made at the nonprofit’s food warehouse at 801 S. Payne Street on Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Other food items needed include:

  • Cereal bowl packs in single serve boxes
  • Boxes of oatmeal packets
  • Kid-friendly microwavable food cups (like Macaroni and Cheese, or soups)
  • Tuna and cracker snack packs
  • Goldfish cracker snack packs
  • Ramen
Donors can also buy food online.
