Alexandria-based Carpenter’s Shelter will hold its signature fundraiser next month, pitting chefs around the city against each other.
Chefs from more than a dozen Alexandria restaurants will compete in the Carpenter’s Cook-Off 2025 from noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19, at The Birchmere (3701 Mount Vernon Avenue). Funds from the event will benefit the nonprofit, which provides temporary housing and support for hundreds of homeless families and individuals every year.
“Top-rated local restaurants, caterers and bakeries will showcase their delicacies, which visitors get to taste and judge,” Carpenter’s Shelter said in a release. “There will be live music from DJ Infinite Sounds, live and silent auctions, raffles, and fun for the whole family.”
Also at the event, former Carpenter’s Shelter Board member Jennifer Poersch will receive the Val Hawkins award, recognizing a community champion who has worked hard to further the organization’s mission.
Tickets for the event cost $75 for adults and $25 for children 12 and under. Tickets at the door cost $100 for adults and $30 for children.
The food will be judged by chefs Michelle Poteaux and Christophe Poteaux, the owners of Bastille Brasserie & Bar; chef Brian Lacayo, of Continues Arcade; and food influencer Emily Hoang of UrNovaFoodie.
