A 15-year-old Alexandria male has been issued a detention order and charged with robbery using a firearm after allegedly robbing a man on a Metro train near the King St-Old Town Metro station.

The incident occurred on Monday, Aug. 4, just after 7 p.m. The victim was on a train traveling from the Van Dorn Street Metro station to the King Street station when he was approached from behind by a masked male, put in a choke hold, hit in the face and then had a black handgun “jammed into his person,” and allegedly said, “Give me everything,” according to a recently released search warrant affidavit. The victim told the Metro Transit Police Department that the suspect stole $300 in cash, an Apple watch, and a Louis Vuitton backpack.

The defendant then fled the train after it arrived at King Street Station,” according to the search warrant affidavit. The victim’s face was bruised, and the victim declined to be transported to the hospital.

Metro Transit Police said that the suspects boarded the same train at 7:08 p.m. through separate doors. According to the search warrant affidavit:

The victim was seated facing towards the back of the train, while the defendant was seated facing towards the front of the train. The defendant was not in possession of a bag. The defendant glanced at the victim, and when the train door closed, the defendant stood from his seat. He donned his hood over his head to conceal his identity while also wearing a surgical mask and approached the victim. He used his body weight against the victim, and a physical struggle ensued. The train seats obstructed part of the view, but the defendant appeared to have his arm around the victim’s head. It appeared that the defendant had the upper hand on the victim and sat next to the victim while still maintaining control of the victim with his right arm around the victim’s neck. At 1909 hours (7:09 p.m.), the victim removed the defendant’s arm from around his neck.

The defendant stood holding a bag. The defendant returned to the victim and sat next to the victim. He appeared to place the bag over his shoulder, then got on his knees facing the victim and appeared to reach towards the victim. They appeared to have a conversation, and both the victim and the defendant stood. The defendant had his right hand inside his right sweatshirt pocket. The victim exited the train at the King Street Metro station followed by the defendant at 1913 hours (7:13 p.m.).

MTPD then, on video surveillance, saw the suspect board a Metro bus. Footage from the bus showed the suspect exiting the bus in the 500 block of N. Armistead Street. A woman later identified as the suspect’s grandmother identified him to police, according to the search warrant affidavit. Police then found that the suspect lives in an apartment in the 2300 block of Eisenhower Avenue.

A detention order was issued for the suspect, charging him with robbery using a firearm.
