
A South Carolina man faces felony charges after allegedly attempting to pick up online orders from the Best Buy store (3401 Richmond Highway) in Potomac Yard.
The suspect was arrested on Aug. 6 after a store manager reported he tried to “pick up online orders with fraudulent identification,” according to a recently released search warrant affidavit.
Police searched the suspect’s vehicle and found a new purple iPad, which was secured into evidence, according to the search warrant affidavit.
The suspect was charged with:
- Obtaining money or a signature by false pretenses, a Class 5 felony, which is punishable by one-to-10 years in prison and/or a $2,500 fine
- Identity theft with intent to steal more than $1,000, a Class 6 felony, which is punishable by up to a year in prison and/or a $2,500 fine
- Possession of a fictitious license, a Class 2 misdemeanor, which is punishable by up to six months in jail and/or a $1,000 fine
The suspect was released on his own recognizance and goes to court on Oct. 24.
