Since 1989, National Recovery Month has been a nationwide observance highlighting the benefits of prevention, treatment, and recovery from substance use disorders. Millions of people across the country now identify as being in recovery, demonstrating that treatment is effective and that people can and do recover.
The city hosted two other recovery events in August and September. On Aug. 28, City Hall was lit in purple for International Overdose Awareness Day, and on Sept. 4, DCHS kicked off recovery month with an event at the Del Pepper Community Resource Center (4850 Mark Center Drive).
