Two West End businesses are helping local students start the school year strong with a donation of school supplies to Patrick Henry K-8 School.

Movement in Science, a stretch therapy provider, and D1 Training Alexandria, an athletic training facility, teamed up to collect backpacks, notebooks, and other classroom essentials throughout August. The supplies, donated by customers of the two businesses, were delivered Thursday afternoon to the West End school with support from the West End Business Association (WEBA).

“We are grateful to Alexandria’s business community for their support of our school children, and look forward to ongoing collaboration with West End businesses,” said Alexandria School Board member Donna Kenley, who joined Principal Kenard Robinson to receive the donation.

Tom Fukuda, owner of D1 Training, said the initiative reflects their broader mission. “Our training helps kids build strength and confidence—and having the right school supplies can do the same in the classroom,” he said.

Kendra Pena-Collazo, owner of Movement in Science, added that the donation is part of her business’s commitment to education and empowerment. “Whether it’s in our studio or in the community, we believe in showing up for people,” she said.
